False anti-Muslim story spun using video of BJP member thrashed by Maharashtra cops – Alt News

A video that shows policemen beating an unarmed man with lathis is widely circulating on social media. It is being claimed that he is an ambulance driver who killed patients in Telangana’s Nizamabad Hospital by obstructing their oxygen supply because his source of income was transporting dead bodies to crematoriums. Twitter user @ Arunk750 wrote that the man’s name is Naseem.

The video has also been shared on Facebook.

A few users have claimed that his name is Asim Kureshi (आसिम कुरेशी).

Alt News has received several requests on its WhatsApp helpline number (+91 76000 11160) and mobile application to verify the claim.

False anti-Muslim spin added to an unrelated incident

BJP National Secretary Sunil Deodhar had tweeted the video on May 27. He claimed that BJP Maharashtra Yuva Morcha District General Secretary Shivraj was beaten by Maharashtra police.

ANI quoted inspector Prashant Mahajan, Kadim Jalna police station, saying that BJP Youth Secy Shivraj Nariyalwale was beaten after his family vandalised hospital premises following the death of a family member on April 10.

News18 Lokmat had also reported the incident.

Former Maharashtra CM and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis took cognisance of the matter and wrote a letter to incumbent CM Uddhav Thackeray on May 28. The New Indian Express reported that five cops – a sub-inspector and four constables – were suspended in Jalna after the video emerged in public. “The incident took place at Deepak Hospital here (Jalna) on April 9 when some people attacked doctors and went on a rampage in the ICU of the hospital after the death of a youth injured in a road accident,” the report added.

A video of Maharashtra policemen thrashing a BJP Maharashtra youth leader for vandalising and creating a ruckus in the ICU of a hospital after the death of a patient was given a false anti-Muslim spin. A story was manufactured that a Muslim ambulance driver was found murdering patients in a Telangana hospital for cutting off their oxygen supply. The false claim added that he did so to make money by transporting dead bodies to crematoriums.
